ART DIRECTION:

This mural by GUMA, a longtime member of Ghostown, appears on the facade of a reception centre for new immigrants in Kiryat Yam. It welcomes residents and visitors in Hebrew, Arabic, English, Russian and Amharic, reflecting some of the widely spoken languages of the population.
Dedicated to Verkia (Riki) Yasu

Inspired by tourist posters and early 20th century product packaging, GUMA brought together a collage of local faces, creating a warm welcome for newcomers to the city. Around them, he wove in elements of the landscape: coastal nightshade, lilies and everyday scenes.

The wall depicts two of the city's citizens: Nela Gitlin, a doctor who immigrated from Belarus and Yelau Mehrat, a farmer and immigrant from Ethiopia. Portrayed on this grand scale, this mural celebrates the achievements and success of the city's diverse, multicultural population.
